My name's Eran Zgayer, and I was born in Israel in 1972. I lived for most of my life in Tirat HaCarmel, and I currently reside in Haifa. Since I can only take city-based images with considerable light pollution from Tirat HaCarmel, I travel to the Aravah in the Desert or the Golan Plateau to conduct observations and photography. During my every-day life I work at a digital print house, while astronomy and photography are my biggest hobbies and passions. Indulging in those habits fulfills me and gives me much joy and satisfaction.
I can clearly remember looking at the moon at the mere age of eight, dazzled and stunned by its beauty. My deep curiosity as to how it looks up-close, what it contains and how it changes every day of the month on a monthly basis, led me to want to observe celestial objects through advanced optical equipment. As a beginner, I used a set of binoculars until I purchased my first telescope at the age of nineteen. I will never forget my first observation with the telescope! As I sat there watching the moon, I felt my heart yearning to jump out my ribcage and scream in excitement. This very set of emotions still fills me up today with every single observation I conduct. I find myself awed by all sorts of celestial objects and this excitement only gets stronger as time passes by.
At the age of sixteen, I purchased my first camera, with which I started capturing moments in my environment. It is because of these images that I realized that my biggest pleasure in photography is the ability freeze a moment in time to allow the viewer to imagine a relevant story that starts at that frozen moment. I also realized that what I love about photography is the ability to capture moments which people pay no attention to, or take for granted, during their day-to-day life.
Through the years, these two passions of mine, photography and astronomy, have born a third, most unique one which is astronomical photography. I can view astronomical photography as the freezing of a moment, even though taking a picture of a celestial object requires considerably more time than the fleeting moment that earthly objects require to document. Astronomical photography and documentation quench my curiosity and help me study the object in-depth, and through this object, the whole universe.
In these three fields, I'm an autodeduct, having collected knowledge and experience on my own, both practically and theoretically.
Through the years, my motto has been "the sky is the limit". This sentence has two main meanings in my eyes:
- I believe that anyone who decides to do what they love, and do it seriously, can make stunning achievements, and nothing will stand in their way.
- Observing the sky is the beginning of a journey through which the deep richness of objects that the endless cosmos contains can be beheld.
I'd like to thank you for visiting my site, watching the photos and taking interest. I hope you enjoyed and liked what you've seen and I'd be delighted to have you back in the future.
We must remember: The sky has been here before us, and will still remain here long after the very last human perishes from this planet. All that's left for us to do is watch the sky and enjoy it.
Sincerely yours, Eran Zgayer.
